In My Shoes.... In Her Shoes....

Some changes that I have noticed in my attitude since changing roles with my lovely wife; just a few, to get the ball rolling.

When I was in my former shoes
  1. I was away from home a lot - travel for work and for playing lacrosse
  2. I felt sorry for myself for how little time I had for the family. and because no one understood that I wanted to be home more.
  3. I was not very understanding about how difficult and boring the medial tasks around the house were.
  4. I brought home the bacon, and as a result I had unfair expectations
  5. I never felt sorry for the stay at homers because they were lucky to be able to do it.

In my new, borrowed shoes
  1. I am at home most of the time, and I love it and I rarely miss important family events
  2. I realized that what we do wit hour time is in our control even to the extent that we can always change jobs, move into a cheaper home etc to free up the resources we have to focus on what is more important
  3. I am far more understanding. It is not the daily tasks are hard, more that they are constant and require less creativity and more persistence and are always affected by kids and the ever looming possibility of a meltdown or a curve ball
  4. Bringing home the bacon, is only part of the game, there is a lot of bacon to be made by replacing expenses and value to be earned through raising healthy wonderful kids.
  5. I still don’t feel sorry for them. We have it great and our families are super fortunate to be able to make this work and we should never feel sorry for ourselves!
